Good week vs Bad week.

Hello!
As the title suggests it has been a week of two halves.
I'll start with the GOOD.
My Hyacinth's have started to bloom, they smell lovely. I keep popping over to them, to have a little sniff, as well as encouraging anyone in the room to do the same!

I have started and finished one side of a round cushion. It has been a nightmare!
Look at all these attempts.

It was driving me loopy! No matter what I did, it wouldn't play nice! Curly and cuppy was the only thing it wanted to do. Swearing didn't help, nor did hurling it across the room. (Though it did fly quite well, a new sport perhaps?!)
Anyhow, I asked on Ravelry .I should have done that to start with! This group is the best (imo) If the lovely folk there can't help you, they'll know a place to go.
I'm pleased to show you the result of all the help and my perseverance!

Yay! Flat(ish)!!
Just the back to do. I want to do it in one solid colour, probably black or stone.

Now on to Bad week.
I did wonder if I should post about this, but because it's part of our lives, and it's going to affect a huge amount of my posts for the next few months. I thought I would. Not only that, I think I might need a shoulder to cry on at times.
So, here goes.
We are about to loose our house. One of the pitfalls of renting I guess. The landlady has decided she wants to move back in.(she has split up with her boyfriend. Allegedly) Her house, her rules, I get it. It doesn't make it any easier though.
Telling J was one of the hardest things I have had to do in a long time. Thank goodness he's a level headed young man. He took it better than I thought. P and I have decided to keep things as normal as possible for this next week, because it's J's 12th birthday next Saturday. We will not allow that to be ruined anymore than it has been already.
After that we will be launching operation new house!
I'm frightened, and have that horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach. OK, big fat wet tears are going to start again if I talk about it any longer. I'm off to get a tissue!
Till next time

  3. I'm sorry to hear about your house situation ~ it must be an awful feeling and even worse when it is out of your control ~ I'm sure that the right house will come along at the right time though! On a brighter note ~ I love your hyacinths and your cushion is fabby. I've only tried a couple of times to crochet in the round and came up against the same problem as you did. I'll need to look at the ravelry advice and see if it helps me too. Take care :O)x

  4. Hayley, I am so sorry to hear that you are having to move when you are not ready. I know exactly how that feels. I do know however, that even though it is hard work and quite stressful that when it is all sorted out you will be quite likely to end up being happier than you were before! On a crochet note, your cushion is delightful and very cheerful - I love it! RachaelXx

Hello Hayley, I am so sorry to hear about your bad news.... however, do try to be positive about it, you may find something better, a cosier place, a more convenient location, who knows? Confronting negative experiences can make us stronger people and changes are not necessarily bad either. It will probably be a hassle in the beginning but hopefully everything will turn up well for you and your family in the end.
I love your cushion, well done and keep up with your lovely, inspiring work!!

  12. I'm so sorry to hear about your house. I also rent and it's always at the back of my mind that the landlord could decide to sell/move in whenever he chooses. I hope you find somewhere quickly xxx

  13. Just a quick comment to say I echo all the sympathies above and hope it all works out ok in the end for you. I've just found your blog and have really enjoyed reading it.

Also you have battled the same flat circle issue that Heather from http://www.littletinbird.co.uk/ is experiencing so I have directed her to you as you seem to have the flat circle neatly sorted.

  14. Well done for sorting out your circles!

I totally understand about having to leave your home. I have had the same situation - I live in rented accommodation with my daughter. You never know how long you can stay and it is never yours. Last time I moved it cost £1,600 in upfront rental costs, not to mention more hundreds at the estate agency and for the removal. As a single mum I don't have that money. So it is not just the thought of re-locating, it is the logistics and the money that always scares me witless and causes so much stress. I have never got the deposit money back from a Landlord yet - they tend to have money difficulties and want to keep it! The last place I was in I had to leave as I paid the rent but the landlord did not pay the mortgage so it was re-possessed. As tenant you have no rights. In my new place where I have been a year all the red demanding letters have started to come here too (they don't tell the lenders the actual address, where they themselves live!). The mortgage is not being paid here either and has got into arrears - despite the fact I pay the rent every month, early. There is nothing I can do. Hopefully the landlord will sort it out. You run out of options - I was loaned the money last time. It looks like if I had to leave here, I again would loose my deposit. It is so unfair - in all cases the rent covers the mortgage and more and yet they do not pay it. I get checked out before they accept me as tenant but there are no checks for landlords. Its outrageous. You can't afford to buy anymore as they won't let you but renting can actually cost far more and you get nothing at the end of the day. Just worry, worry worry (and unfixed leaks and broken boilers etc.)

Sorry to whine on your blog but I wanted you to know that some of us do know what it is like and we sympathise with you. Hold tight because despite it all, the problems, the stress and the worry; it will all be ok. It always is - it always has been for me and I am sure it will be for you too. Try not to worry too much, it will all work out.xxx
